Weekly Update for February 15th

The hours of daylight are lengthening every week. At the end of December it feels like the day has hardly begun before it is already darkening with oncoming night again. Even when the sun is out it feels weak. But things are getting better. I went on a bike ride today and it felt like the sun was truly shining. True, it was still only about 20F outside, but we take improvements where we can get them.

My Author Central Page

As promised last week, my Amazon Author Central page has been rebooted. You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/author/rundypurdy That page will aggregate the posts from this blog, and the tweets on my twitter page. Should I ever start having promotional videos or tour dates, they could also go on that page. All around, the page is supposed to give readers more information about me as a writer, and also allow me to manage and track my books on Amazon better.

Calibre

Do you read ebooks? If you are a ebook reader, you might want to consider checking out Calibre. It is a piece of free software for managing your ebooks. In their own words:

calibre is a free and open source e-book library management application developed by users of e-books for users of e-books. It has a cornucopia of features divided into the following main categories:

  • Library Management
  • E-book conversion
  • Syncing to e-book reader devices
  • Downloading news from the web and converting it into e-book form
  • Comprehensive e-book viewer
  • Content server for online access to your book collection

To learn more, or to download and try it out, go to: http://calibre-ebook.com/

The company also runs a directory listing DRM free ebooks. As it so happens, I am listed there.

Your Weekly Dose

Everyone can use a bit of humour in their life. There is a Youtube series called “Kid Snippets” where the dialogue of some children acting out an imaginary scene is then put to a video of adults performing the scene. Some are more funny than others, but I thought the drive through edition was pretty good: http://youtu.be/m0fayuVdnzs

The cool object of the week are these root bridges constructed (grown!) over in India. Pretty amazing to see: http://rootbridges.blogspot.com/2009/08/blog-post.html

Coming up Next in Rundy World

My author page on Amazon is up and going. Now I need to set up my author page on Goodreads, Library Thing, and Shelfari. I also need to get my ebooks into Smashwords and the Apple iBookstore. I am not sure yet which I will do in the next week, but I will try to do one of those things!
